PM2.5 attack from Asian Continent recognized as a social issue
The trans-boundary pollution of PM. 2.5 (particulate matter smaller than 2.5 micro meter, which can penetrate deep into lungs) was reported to be seriously increasing (March 6, 2013).
Speech on “Lightning science and related topics”
Dr. M. Kamogawa(Director) made a speech on “Lightning science and related topics” at an open seminar on reducing thunder and lightning damage. (March 27, 2013)

Toppled tree causes damage to transmission lines
A tree was found to be bending upon power cables by the mountain crews who were checking the cables prior to the summer campaign. A plan to remove them before the next summer campaign was scheduled.
Mr. Takahiro Isobe won student poster prize
The 6th International conference on fog, fog collection and dew was held at Yokohama, where Mr. Takahiro Isobe, a student of Prof. H. Okochi(Director), Waseda University received a student poster prize on his work at Mt. Fuji on May 24, 2013. The photo shows Mr. Isobe when he was mending the water leak of the weather station, last summer.

Mount Fuji Authorized as one of the World Cultural Heritages
Mount Fuji was authorized as one of the World Cultural Heritage at the world heritage committee meeting held at Phnom Penh, Cambodia on June 26, 2013. From this day, attack of media began to the NPO office.

Serialization of column "Kamitsubute" begins
On July 3, a serialization of column ‘Kamitsubute (paper pellets)’ began on the evening news papers, Chunichi and Tokyo, by Dr. Y. Dokiya (Director). Her column lasted 26 times up to December 24, which provoked many reaction from various quarters.
Mouse inversion measures to the electric switchboard
In order to prevent power failures caused by mouse which took place last year, door of the switchboard was fixed firmly by metal fittings. (July 8, 2013)
The summer campaign started
At 10:05, July 16, 2013, the Summer Campaign 2013 started. It lasted 46 days to Aug. 30, 2013, supporting many research activities having mountain crews who staied at the station.
Success in catching the image of 'Sprite'
In the evening (?) of July 22, Dr. Kamogawa and his students succeeded in taking a clear photo of ‘Sprite’ (Super high electric discharge phenomenon of the lightning origin) by the fixed camera on the third building of the station, above the clouds. It is the first step to the continuous observation.
Authorized as a temporarily Approved Specified Nonprofit Corporation
On July 29, 2013, NPO ‘Valid Utilization of Mt. Fuji Weather Station’ was recognized as a temporarily Approved Specified Nonprofit corporation after 6 month examination. From now on, the tax break applies the following contribution.

Sakurajima Volcanic plume caught at the summit of Mt. Fuji
Prof. S. Kato(Director) and his colleagues found an extraordinary high peak of SO2 two days after the big eruption (as high as 5000m, 16:00pm, Aug. 18, 2013) of Sakurajima, more than 1000 km apart. It was supposed to be the effect of the eruption. (Aug. 21, 2013)

Mercury Emissions Treaty Adopted
Minamata treaty was adopted at an international meeting held at Minamata to regulate to dig, to use, to import and to export mercury. Prof. O. Nagafuchi, (Shiga Pref University) was interviewed by NHK TV, broadcasted in ‘close-up Gendai’ on his atmospheric mercury data obtained at the summit of Mt. Fuji. (Oct. 9, 2013)
