Title of project:
Long term observation of carbon monoxide, ozone, and sulfur dioxide during summer at the summit of Mt. Fuji
Project leader and team:
Assoc. Prof. Shungo KATO
Project description:
Atmospheric carbon monoxide (CO), ozone (O3), and sulfur dioxide (SO2) were measured at the top of Mt. Fuji during summer in 2014. CO can work as an indicator of transport of polluted air. In
most of cases, CO and O3 show similar concentration change. Around July 28-30, and August 7 and 13, only O3 was high concentration. During these periods, air at high altitude containing high O3
transported to Mt. Fuji. High SO2 concentration was observed on August 13. This high SO2 was expected to be transported from eruption of Mt. Sakura-jima.
